Audient iD48

Pros:
- Very high-quality build and feel
- Switchable inserts (entire interface is worth it for this feature alone!)
- Transparent headphone amps, drive higher ohm headphones reasonably well
- Great components (AD/DA conversion, pre amps, etc)

Cons:
- No dedicated power button
- Clunky and confusing software, it took me a few weeks to adjust to it
- Unreliable loudness metering

Conclusion:
I’ve enjoyed the ID48 the past 3 months of ownership. When comparing it to other interfaces in its class, it’s the clear winner for mixing engineers. The quality is also unmatched, the full metal housing and switches feel higher quality than Audient’s 4816. Integrating it with a patchbay or single 8 slot 500 series rack is extremely powerful and allows you to mix with analog hardware quickly. However, as much as I love the ID48, I feel as though the software is its biggest drawback. Despite watching Audient’s provided videos, some features, such as independent headphone mixes, are only briefly mentioned but not well explained leaving the user to experiment with the feature until they reach their required routing . The metering in the ID software is extremely annoying as it often displays clipping warnings even if the signal is well below the threshold (such as when watching a youtube video). Lack of a dedicated power button is currently very annoying until I buy a second power conditioner.

I've been using Audient interfaces for quite some time now and they all sound great. This new unit is really amazing: sounds good, looks good but the absolute showstopper is the switchable inserts. It took me a while how to figure out how flexible this actually is but I can use my outboard gear in multiple ways without having to replug cables. However, I do have 2 things I would like to improve:
- the ID mixer is black on black and its very hard to read for me.
- The headphone amp isnt great: I basically dont have any sound before 12' o clock. I did reach out to Audient and they were looking into if they could make this better via a firmware update so we'll see.

Pour le contexte: je suis sondier (ingé son en live), et j'utilisais une iD14 (2 entrées micro) que je baladais tout le temps avec moi pour faire les calages système. Ayant eu l'occasion d'apprécier Audient, j'ai donc acheté une iD48 (pour avoir 8 entrées), couplée à un ASP880 pour en avoir 8 de plus à 96kHz (reliées via 2x ADAT)
Ce que j'aime: le son, que je trouve très transparent, précis. La qualité de fabrication, c'est beau, c'est robuste, c'est rackable, le soft (mixer et paramétrage) qui est très complet, avec une belle interface (a priori, voir ci-dessous)
Ce que j'aime moins (mais honnêtement, c'est très mineur): le paramétrage du loopback que je ne trouve pas clair, le positionnement des potars de volume de casque qui sont très proche des prises jacks et du coup malaisés à manipuler, l'interface du soft qui est certes très belle en studio mais, avec ces tons de gris, difficilement lisible en extérieur (c'est un ajout, je n'utilise pas l'iD48 en extérieur mais la iD14, l'interface soft étant la même) => d'où les 4/5 étoiles en "utilisation" mais c'est limite sévère comme note.
A part ça, et encore une fois, c'est très mineur, c'est que du bonheur. J'utilise cette carte son depuis quelques semaines, je ne l'ai pas encore poussée dans ses retranchements, je n'ai pas encore utilisé les connexions DB25, mais pour le moment, c'est un quasi sans fautes.
A ce stade, je referai le même choix sans hésiter.
