Evans 18" EQ4 Calftone Bass Drum

After experimenting with a single ply head and not finding the sound I was looking for, I tried this EQ4 calftone drumhead with a single ply calftone as resonant head. The sound is amazing. Very open and still controlled. If you tune it higher you get this be-bop sound, without overtones or unwanted high tones. The bass drum sounds full, open and controlled. I strongly recommend the combination Calftone EQ4 (batter) and single ply (reso).

I was looking for a resonant head with a vintage look and feel but couldn't decide between evans and remo fyberskin variant.
Finally I bought evans head since it seems thicker which is a great characteristic if you want big fat warm sound. Built-in ring gives a little bit of sustain control which is great, so there is no need for dampening the head. Overall, big recommendation.

I honestly bought this drum head just for the looks. I have a small PDP classic set (with the wooden hoops) and so I wanted it to look as good as possible for performing.

It not only looks absolutely amazing but of course if you tune it properly, then it also sounds very very good, just like any other drum head... I mean, sure there are some sound differences between drum heads but especially for kick drums, I feel like the way you tune them makes a huge difference, not really the head itself :)
