Mass-produced boutique bass
Overall, this bass guitar is impressive, with some minor details that demonstrate it is mass-produced compared to handmade boutique bass guitars. However, these are trivialities for the price of this bass, which fairly competes against much higher-end instruments.
HH pickups can be configured to act as single coils or humbuckers in parallel or series. The volume and mid-range controls work, but they lack precise movement, feeling a little wobbly at the top. Although they could be easily replaced with better pots, removing this low-quality aspect from the bass.
The body colour stands out and reminds me of a crème brûlée dessert. It feels smooth to the touch, with some isolated, spotty roughness in the varnish.
It comes with Dragon Skin+ Bass Quantum Nickel strings that make playing feel smooth and powerful, both in sound and under the fingertips. A perfect match for a fretless if you really care about a pure gliss sound.
The bass comes in a velvety black interior hard case (unfortunately, both times I ordered the bass, the case came partially cracked on top of the single-cut shape). This could have happened during transport, as the bass is quite heavy and does not snugly fit in the case, potentially moving with some force if improperly handled. The case came with two 9V batteries for the circuitry, allowing you to start enjoying both passive and active configurations, and two Allen keys to adjust the bridge and neck curvature.
