A solid wireless mic starter kit
SoundManJohn 14.06.2024
Good audio is essential nowadays, right? I can't emphasise this enough. I'm personally grateful that Røde has made the effort to offer an affordable and flexible wireless system that works right out of the box.
While the ME is oriented toward vloggers and budget productions, I think this kit can be used for professional productions as well. So far I have used the ME wireless mics for desktop and iPhone video recordings and with a mirrorless camera. The ME kit worked well in every situation. This kind flexibility is great for people who work with diverse formats.
For users who are new to working with audio and wireless mics it might take a little bit to work out the different cabling and settings for each setup but for the most part Rode has created a product that is more or less plug and play. The new automatic gain assist function seems to be a big improvement over the usual auto level adjustment on most recording devices (which I'm usually wary of). When in doubt you can also turn off the auto gain and set the levels manually. I've also tested the different level settings and can say that the highest gain is even strong enough for capturing ambient sounds if necessary. This means that wireless mics can be used for much more than voice capture. These are creative tools as well.
I understand there are a lot of options in the consumer wireless mic space right now so you should do your research to see which system will best suit your production needs. I personally can't compare the ME to much else except for the GO II kit. They are both very similar with the GO II offering a screen interface and longer transmission range. But for a wireless mic starter kit that offers a lot of flexibility, I feel the ME is a solid choice.
