I got this mic to add some variety to my little collection and to solve a persistent problem. I used to record solo violins, singers and flute in a small, difficult space with no room for room treatment, and that tended to produce resonances that were hard to tame. The result was recordings with an excessive dynamic range. This mic seems to have the capacity to dampen those unwanted high frequency resonances in a musical way, and it helped me produce decent recordings with little need for room treatment before recording, and minimal need for EQ or whatever on the resulting audio files. All in all a handy tool.
UPDATE: After a few years the rubberized coating deteriorated. It became sticky and transferred to fingers when handling. I tried to contact SE Electronics through their web page, but only got a "Whoops, something went wrong" message. So I had to improvise a solution, lightly dusting the mic with talc. Not something I'd want to do with an expensive and sensitive piece of gear, but in its current state it was unusable. We'll se how it goes.
