Crystal Clear Tone and Flawless Build, But Mind the Highs
Introduction & Rationale
The Taylor 314ce Studio is an absolute beast in terms of build quality and playability. I’ve been using it for a while now, and the Grand Auditorium body shape is perfect—it sits comfortably and delivers that signature Taylor punch. It’s a professional-grade tool that feels like it’s built to last a lifetime.
Sound & Electronics
The acoustic sound is balanced and resonant, but there is one thing to be aware of when plugging in: the ES2 pickup system is very bright-sounding. It has a lot of "zing" and high-end definition. In fact, to get the warm, natural tone I prefer for my sets, I find that I have to keep the Treble knob turned all the way down on the guitar’s preamp. Once you roll that high-end off, the sound becomes much more manageable and sits beautifully in a mix, but out of the box, it definitely leans toward the sharp side.
Conclusion
Overall, this is a top-tier guitar. The craftsmanship is flawless, and it plays like a dream. Just be prepared to tweak your EQ settings—specifically that treble dial—if you want to avoid a piercing sound when playing through a PA or an amp. Once you dial it in, it’s easily one of the best-sounding guitars in its class.
