I really like this modeler. I think from all Boss GX/GT series products, this one is the most well-balanced in terms of price to feature ratio.
Pros:
- Very compact and lightweight.
- Ton of features. Editing is simple, especially if you had other Boss processor before. Bluetooth connectivity is super handy. Gear suite is also very convenient feature. I've tried GX-10 before, and on-device editing is much faster and more straightforward on GX-1.
- Can be powered with batteries or via USB.
- Great selection of effects. Delays have high cut (but no low cut though).
- Delay/reverb trails carryover between presets. No need in snapshots/scenes. To achieve it you need to have the same effects layout and the same delay/reverb models between presets. The cool thing is that you can use different amp models (e.g. clean and dirty) in two consecutive presets, and still have delays carryover between these presets.
- Good default cab simulation. I've ended up not using 3rd party IR's.
- If you don't use Wah, you can assign expression pedal foot-switch as 4th footswitch to enable/disable effects.
- Easy to use looper. No need to assign looper as extra block or in each preset.
Cons:
- For me it was quite tricky to get amp sounds I like. What really helped is placing EQ block after amp block to cut low/mid frequencies and boost highs (there's no presence controls in amp block). I'm quite happy with amp tones I have now, but it took a while to get there.
- You can't split the output signal: one output to front desk with cab sim on, and another to an amp with cab sim off. I don't play live, so it's not important for me. But I know it's critical feature for some of you, my beautiful friends.
- No input gain control, which is very strange... I hope it will be added during future firmware update.
- Battery comparntent cover looks a bit glimpsy.
