Love them.
CristianC 10.06.2013
I've been using them since a tried them 3 years ago, they give the perfect sound to my american standard precision bass, not too shiny and very well balanced, very nice and soft feeling with a powerfull sound.
I would recommend them, yes.

Good strings but not my favourite.
TrEr 17.12.2019
DR makes good strings but I've never really liked their stainless steel offerings. They're far too scooped sounding for me.

So I figured I would try one of their nickel plated steel varieties. They're certainly not scooped! If anything they've got too much mids for my taste. They have this honky thing going in the mids that I'm not really a big fan of. Don't get me wrong, they're not bad strings. It's just that I could list at least 10 other nickel roundwounds I like far better so I don't see the point of buying the Sunbeams again. It was worth a try but they're not for me.

Warm tone, smooth feel, seriously inspiring
Treevalera 12.05.2026
DR Sunbeams are easily one of the most musical bass string sets I’ve tried.
They deliver a warm, rounded low end with enough clarity to cut through without sounding harsh. The feel is incredibly smooth, which makes them perfect for long sessions or studio work.
They respond beautifully to touch — soft playing keeps things deep and controlled, while a stronger attack brings out a nice, organic growl.
Tuning stability is solid, and overall build quality feels reliable. They may lose a bit of brightness over time, but the core tone remains very usable.
If you’re into a natural, vintage-inspired sound with modern playability — these are a great pick.

Great, but expensive
Uros86 16.08.2021
These strings sound great on a P-bass-type (G&L SB-2). Prominent, midrange-heavy sound, great for fingerstyle. They are more supple than regular strings, so it takes some adjustment. Once you adjust your technique, they work great.

Eventually, however, I found them too expensive for regular use. I found that the regular Ernie Ball or Daddario are good enough, and cheaper. But if you are finnicky and want supple roundwound strings, these are the ones to get. I might go back to them one day.
