all that's rumored holds true – and better than true!
rbbrnck 12.07.2021
they've been ordered for my 2018 MIM Fender Mustang Offset 90: not that the original ones weren't fine, it was the hum that pushed me to hunt for a silent replacement – no, wait: a dead silent one at that!

whatever you've read about this might hold true: they definitely sound like the real thing, sans hum, though; the pair sounds definitely beefy, solid, pretty quick in attack, and massive, in terms of sound impression.

don't be misled by its really hot output level: it's there to jam your amp's input stage and choke it with a serious voltage, sure – but that's just the recipe printed on their box; tone-wise, they're hot, but not rough. and smoothly refined, though definitely not glass-like.

rolling off the master tone pot only partially, or even to the full extent, my pair always sounds convincingly thick, and dense, and dark – but always in control, with details and dynamics, and zero hum.

the guitar not only is now dead silent, no matter how close to the layers of DSP-based pedals i can get, but have an even wider application latitude, from a most delicate whisper, to an ominous, thunderous roar!

if only i had more guitars routed for peen-ein-tee pickups, i'd make sure they all had a fresh pair of these installed!

Real deal

As many others, I fell in love with p90 sound, but couldn't really stand the hum and the buzz, so I started looking for a solution... I found just a few videos about these pickups, but did read loads of written reviews on how this set is really good and then decided to give it go and try them in a custom build Jazzmaster shaped guitar...
And then, when I fiiiiiiiinally got it, the hum was there! Playing it through an amp, next to the computer monitor, everywhere... What a disappointment and shock! It took me 2 desparate days to realize that the wiring could have gone wrong... Called the luthier and he said that he was 99.9% sure he did a good job, but to bring the guitar back, so we can cover that 0.01%...
"Ooooh my god, is this possible???", he said and reworked it within 15 seconds :)

No hum and no tone loss! Game changer. I was genuinely blown away. From the very first few notes, I could feel I have everything I love about P90s: open, mid-forward growl in the bridge, and the smooth, slightly smoky warmth in the neck. The clarity is all there. The touch sensitivity - Still dynamic. Rich. Classic.

They respond to volume knob changes beautifully, and they clean up just like traditional P90s do when you roll off the gain.

If you’re like me and love everything about P90s except the hum, Fralin’s Noiseless set is a no-brainer.

Solution to my hum-pain
ScottyDF 21.07.2024
My CP Thornton Blues Queen, bought used, made in about 2007, came with Zhangbucker P90s installed. The pickups sounded nice but for some gigs I couldn't use that guitar because of 50- or 60-cycle hum (depending on where the gig was). Finally I bought a set of Fralin Hum-Cancelling P90s. Not only is the hum gone, but the pickups sound sweeter than the Zhangbuckers. The only change I would have made was to have the bridge pickup overwound by 5 percent to make balancing the set easier. Not a big deal. A little height adjustment and the set balances well.
