HR
Bass hits a home run
Hercules Robinson 06.08.2026
Introduction:
This is the third Sire bass in my collection!
Already very happy with an M7 bass (5-string Ash/Maple body/ebony fretboard/dual humbuckers) and a Z7 bass (5-string Ash body/roasted maple neck & fretboard/ single coil+humbucker) it was not hard to decide on the DC10 to complete a trio.
Rationale
The feature set of this bass included all the specs that my other 2 basses didn't have - neck through design, rosewood topped body and rosewood fretboard with stainless frets, latest spec P & J style pickups and it comes with a hard case. The design and anticipated sonic should compliment the M7 "tonemaster" and Z7 "bright and aggressive" basses.
Conclusion:
And I was not disappointed!
A shorter than expected pre-order period from Thomann and UPS shipping from Germany to Oz (in just 5 days) had the bass in my hands in record time.
Opening the case revealed a beautifully satin-finished instrument that could be well described as boutique.
First pluck of a string had the bass ringing and resonating for longer than even my high expectations hoped for - just amazing! The action out of the box is even faster than my other 2 nicely setup basses. The pots, switch and tuners are smooth and noise-free as you would expect.
The sound is warm and full and (should I say it?) in the P&J region - the new pickups are noticably improved over the previous Sire P&J models. With the inbuilt preamp switched on and tweaked the instrument grows in stature. The pre's on my other 2 basses are good but on this DC bass the preamp compliments the pickups perfectly providing boost or cut to enhance the sound and obtain that "studio sound that is in your mind".
After 2 days of playing I continue to be impressed with the sound, playability and comfort of this bass. It's not often one finds an instrument that make you sound better that you really are - Sire has knocked this one out of the park!!
Thank you especially to Thomann for obtaining this bass for me (as a lefty) when no-one else would.
