Warwick RockBass Infinity 5 VSTHP

Genuinely one of the best-sounding basses I’ve ever played.

However, I cannot recommend this bass because of Warwick’s consistently poor quality control. This is the 4th Infinity RockBass I’ve owned, and every single one has had significant issues.

The problems with this particular bass included:

Spun-out truss rod
Extremely high frets
Improper copper shielding
Loose knobs
A truss rod cover that was too long, making it almost impossible to properly lower the Just-A-Nut 3

Thankfully, Thomann was kind enough to offer me a partial refund that covered the cost of having the bass properly worked on by a luthier friend of mine. Without that, I probably would have returned it.

And that’s the frustrating part: this bass sounds AMAZING and plays GREAT, but only after having a luthier fix the problems.

I’ve seen people excuse these kinds of issues by saying something along the lines of, “Well, it’s a Chinese made bass, so you shouldn’t expect too much.” I strongly disagree with that. Warwick themselves state that RockBass instruments are manufactured in Asia (typically China), while their design and quality standards are overseen by Warwick, including quality control and final setup processes.

Regardless of where the bass is manufactured, though, these issues simply aren’t acceptable at this price point. The first three Infinity RockBass basses I owned cost me almost €1,100 each, and this one was around €800. That is still a substantial amount of money, and I expect much better quality control from any instrument in this price range, especially from a brand with Warwick’s reputation.

What makes this even more frustrating is that I’ve now owned four of these basses, and they have repeatedly suffered from almost the exact same kinds of problems. At this point, it’s difficult not to question whether proper quality control is actually being carried out at all.

I genuinely love Warwick and have a lot of respect for the brand. Unfortunately, the Infinity RockBass line has been an absolute quality-control nightmare in my experience.

If you’re willing to have a luthier sort out the issues, this bass can be incredible. But it shouldn’t have to be that way straight out of the box.
