Brilliant instrument overall, INSANE value for the price.

I've wanted this bass for around 4 years and i finally got it. i've been playing it for around 10 - months now. it plays beautifully out of the box, but i put some extra thick gauge strings on there out of preference. sounds awesome and there are few sounds you can't get out of it. sounds amazing both in active and passive modes, the frets are comfortable and the electronics feel robust and good quality.

The ONLY criticism i have is that the treble preamp is a little noisy. there's a noticeable hiss the more you turn it up (otherwise it is very low noise), but that has also been the case with other active circuits basses i've played. i'm going to look into solving that if possible.

Comfortable to play, good quality parts (especially for the price) incredible sound, maximum versatility, and it even looks gorgeous.

Second best bass i've ever played (the first was a 70's era P-Bass, cracked lacquer and everything, and that's worth over 4 times the price. i wouldn't expect this to beat that - thought it still came close)

Great value for the money

I have this since a couple years now. The bass is built perfectly, light and well balanced, it is all-round really comfortable. Hardware is perfect, and it's very easy to get to very low action, also frets are perfect.
String spacing at the bridge is 18mm.
What can really be improved is pickups and onboard eq, but for the first time, Yamaha finally used standard pickups routing (Bartolini P2 housing) so you can go for anything you like. I mounted Nordstrand Big Splits/John East Eq and now I have a really high-end instrument.
I highly reccomend this bass, great for beginners and also for pros on the budget

Sounds and looks great. Reliable and versatile.
My Metal Hobby 07.10.2026
I've had this bass for over a year now and I'm still very happy with the purchase. I'm a guitarist, composing and recording metal music at home and wanted to go over from programming bass to actually playing it. My first impression of playing the yamaha was just how easy to play it is and as a new bassist I got to say I love the feeling of feeling the vibration of the low B-string in the chest when playing. And the sound is amazing! Love the option to go active or passive in the pickups which gives me flexibility on clean vs distorted parts. I am playing mostly in B which is great for this, but since standard B-tuning is a superset of standard E-tuning I can use the same bass for just "normal" songs and I think it sounds great there as well. The looks is also right up my alley. The matt white with the dark chrome knobs - just chefs kiss! My only complaint is that there is a small gap around the neck joint and I received the bass with a very tiny ding on the headstock. Nothing you really can see unless you're less than a meter away from the bass. It's a bit nose divy when playing siting down without a strap, but maybe all bases are that with the long neck?
