Sturdy and fast
The practical guitarist 05.06.2020
Whether at home or on stage, I need two things: protection for my gear and being able to set things up fast. The Thon Effect Pedal Case offers both.

The case feels sturdy, in large part due to its weight (careful when moving it around, it can cause damage), but also because it's obvious that detail has been paid attention to, both during design and construction. All parts, fixed and moving, look and feel durable. It looks great and will probably look even better after some natural wear.

When on stage, dead time between bands usually needs to be as little as possible. When at home, every minute that goes towards setting up gear is a minute lost from practice. This case is easy to open (place on the floor and unhinge) and a bit more difficult to shut (align the rims to each other, then align the hinges to the slots), but it only takes seconds to do either so, when time is of essence, this pedal case delivers.

When open, the flat, black, carpet-like bottom surface is just serene. There's enough headroom inside to fit a wah-wah, as well as even taller pedals.

My wah-wah pedal sits near the middle of the board and I like to step on it with all my weight every now and then. That can't be done anymore. Maybe it could with an extra pair of feet at the centre, but it's not a big deal.

The package contained two adhesive stripes of hook-and-loop tape (both hook side), which, although I'm using at the moment, I'm not confident they hold up very securely on either side.

If I ever outgrow this case, I'll probably go for the bigger one.

Thomann's delivery was, as always, perfect.

Almost perfect, but one MAJOR flaw in the build quality...
Jonny Smokes 19.04.2025
The case itself and the build quality are top notch and I am very happy. However, the inner board material that the pedals are supposed to velcro to is way too fuzzy. When I tried to remove a pedal it was almost impossible to get the velcro away from the board. I ended up pulling most of the industrial strength velcro off my pedals, and now the fuzzy material is warped, stretched and falling off the pedal board in places. Thon should immediately replace this material with something more user friendly, because this fuzzy and weak base makes removing a pedal and reconfiguring the setup almost impossible without destroying things. I'm going to tear it all off and rebuild the inner board with a better velcro friendly material like thin industrial carpet. Thon should also do a much better job of gluing it to the wood. The existing glue is just squirted randomly in lines, where it should have been rolled out with a paint roller so it is evenly distributed and actually gives the base material equal strength. This is very sloppy and fell apart the first time I tried to move a pedal. Hopefully they discontinue using this in their future builds, but otherwise the case is great.
