Awesome!

Besides the name on the headstock, it's a Gibson! The electronics and the pickups are the same as the ones on the Gibsons. What else can I say? It's a no-brainer.

EDIT: When I bought it, it cost 777€, which was kind of expensive already, but ok. Now it costs 999€ (!!!), which makes me wonder if it's still worth it. I think not.

Superb Guitar / Awful Tuners
Lazzarotto 15.11.2022
Sad to give this guitar a 3 stars. Because believe me this is a pretty great guitar. Amazing neck, sustain, the laurel fretboard is pretty good too. The pups you know how they sound.
Unfortunatelly, I think I'm in a bad luck with this 59 series when we're talking about the tuners. The first one I got from Thomann all the 3 tuners on treble strings were poping and cracking pretty loud, it was clear that something inside wasn't working right.
So I did what Thomann said to me. Recorded a video showing the issue. Soon as possible they sent me all the papers to send the guitar back.. so I did.
Last week the new one came home. Amazing guitar even better than the first one. Better paintjob, better sustain! Good Lord I was so happy.. until today. The day I did the first restring.
To my surprise I've discovered that the tuning machine on the low E and on the B string have the same problem as those on the guitar I send back. But this time I'll just eat this issue because I don't want to deal with sending the guitar again. The guitar stays in tune pretty well.. but I know someday this machine will break on me. And it's a pain to hear this f crack when you change the strings.. it's in a particular position that isn't always accessible just in daily retuning. You gotta do bigger spins on the machine.

So as I said its sad to give this guitar such a "bad" rating because I really loved what Epiphone did everywhere else apart from the tuning machines. Probably I'm just with bad luck on that because I didn't heard about it online. This is a pretty good les paul, especially with those PAFs.. But keep in mind that you may also have problems like this. After all.. It's a good guitar from a poorly inspected manufacturer.

OMG top quality

What a surprise! Absolutely love this guitar. Pickups and hardware comes from gibbo so I was expecting that this will be good but the guitar in itself is superb! I own about 10 guitars from Harley Benton (500) to Mayones (3K). I wasn't expecting that I will fall in love in the neck but hey it superb. I normally prefer slim/shred etc and this supposed to be fat enough but it doesn't feel like that. Its so playable. I am soo impressed by this Epiphone it beyond words. The guitar came setup really well as well . Its actually funny but its the best setup I got right from the box (I imagine I was lucky enough). Action is super low right from the box. I am very glad that I didn't buy Gibson standard (2300) as I wanted to gamble on this one first. It is very close. Frets looks good. Will polish them to bring it to another level. Tuners seems to be ok, feel premium and tuning stability is there. Fret board needs to be oiled as it was super dry. Other than that absolutely amazing guitar. BTW top look great as well (like on the picture). I've had 1960 Epiphone Tribute (top tier) few years back and this guitar is smiles ahead.

Love this guitar !
Arnaud1975 28.04.2025
i bought originally the Harley Benton SC-550 plus with EMG pickups. i actually found it very well built, great fretwork, nice neck, nice body without any issues...just beautiful! Sadly after a day, one of the EMG pickups got issues. it was cracking so much that it became unusable and i had to return it. been waiting a while to get a new one as it was not in stock anymore, but when i saw i still had to wait like 2 months to get a replacement, i started to look at other guitars and i found this beautiful Epiphone 1959 Les Paul. Obviously more expensive than the Harley Benton, but the main reasons i have chosen this one were the specs. It was coming with real Gibson burstbuckers, 50's style wiring, very good electronic (the switch and jack connector) , and all came in a beautiful brown vintage style case.
I would say the frets needed some work (i polished them directly), and changed the strings. I didn't do anything to the action, it was to my liking.
My experience so far has been great. i love the sound of this guitar, the PAF burstbuckers pickups sound really great. the tone and volume knob are also very good to dial a different sound. if i would change one thing, it would be may be only the tuners (i liked actually more the locking tuners of the Harley Benton). i feel like tuning my low E string is sometimes challenging. not that it gets really out of tune but it's the string needing the most corrections. But may be that's just because i tune with a very sensitive tuner (TC electronic Polytune), and i would not see the need of a correction with a less sensitive tuner.
All by all, i love the guitar, the colour (the Aged Dark Cherry Burst colour is beautiful and better in reality than on pictures), the electronic (good switch, tone and volume knobs, jack conenctor), and super love the sound (great Gibson Burstbuckers).
To compare with the Harley Benton, i'm conscious it doesn't have the same price but no regret at all to have been spending some extra money to get this beautiful guitar!
